Quality

The Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) calls its patient-centered philosophy of critical care delivery Right Care, Right Now™. The idea is that patients get the care they need from a trained, integrated team of critical care experts directed by a trained and present physician who is credentialed in critical care medicine. Members of the multiprofessional team, work together to deliver appropriate care without delay.

This Web page was developed as a quality/patient safety resource for everyone in the critical care profession. Here you can find safety tips, articles regarding information on the team model and improved quality care, and success stories of how others have been able to improve patient safety in their organizations.

Resources

Paragon Critical Care Quality Implementation Program™
Improve quality in your ICU with SCCM's Paragon program. Paragon offers hospitals an unparalleled opportunity to benefit from the experiences of peer leaders dedicated to critical care performance improvement. Engaging tools provided by SCCM and others, Paragon Critical Care utilizes a combination of self-assessment, teleconferences, site visits, peer collaboration, consulting and coaching. View and listen to 6-2009 collaborative discussions on four relevant topics.

ICU REPORT and Index
Delivering high-quality care is critical for all ICUs. The ICU REPORT (ICU Resource, Evaluation, and Patient Outcomes Reporting Tool) allows individual institutions to assess their critical care facilities in terms of ICU organization and quality improvement processes. Through participation in this program, ICU directors and staff as well as hospital administrators can assess their present status and implement plans for continuous quality improvement to meet goals set forth by healthcare policy, accreditation and economic entities. Included in the program is a CD-ROM containing sample worksheets and the ICU Index. The ICU Index is an electronic assessment tool that automatically generates results in spider diagrams or bar charts, providing you with a snapshot of your ICU performance. Worksheets accompany the program to guide you through the assessment process. Click here to purchase the ICU REPORT and ICU Index.
