This course is designed for use by a qualified academic institutional program director to educate residents and other students using SCCM's online learning system. This program is also available in other formats (see below). The Resident ICU (RICU) courses are designed to familiarize the resident in training with issues faced in caring for the critically ill patient. While this program is designed specifically for residents rotating through the ICU, many other individuals will find this course useful as a basic primer in critical care medicine. The course is available only to program directors and other teaching institutions and is available in both Adult (AICU) and Pediatric (PICU) curriculums. Course Objectives: - To prepare the ICU resident for management of the critically ill patient
- To assist the ICU resident in dealing with sudden deterioration of the critically ill patient.
- To provide ICU clinicians with background and assessment tools for the management of critically ill patients.
- To prepare residents, nurses and other critical care practitioners to deal with acute deterioration in the critically ill patient.

Pre- and Post-Tests
Pre- and post-tests validate learners knowledge accrual following participation in the AICU or PICU Courses. Tests have been structured to reflect the Course content. Using the online Test Score Dashboard Instructors view student's test scores and their responses to each question. A PDF copy of the student's pre- and post-test can be downloaded to a file or printed. Access to this dashboard is found at the bottom of the Program Director's course list on the MySCCM webpage.

Program Director's Dashboard
Using the Program Director Dashboard, you can monitor your residents' participation in the program; you can track the number of presentations viewed by each resident. Access your Program Director's Dashboard information by clicking on the link found in your Welcome letter. You may want to bookmark this link for quick access to your students' progress and to prevent losing the information.
Others needing access to the Dashboard: If you have others (e.g., department heads, section heads, administrative assistants, etc.) within your department who will need access to this dashboard, you may share the link with them. There is no need for them to register for the program.
Take The Student Course
You have the option to view the course material and then take the tests, exactly like your students do so you have a better understanding of what they are experiencing. You will be able to identify quickly the courses you have completed by looking for the filled circle. An empty circle indicates the course has not been started while a semi-filled circle indicates the course has been accessed.
Student Enrollment Process
This course permits your students/residents/staff to self-enroll in your program, thus saving you time. Simply copy the link you were sent in your Welcome email into an email to each individual you wish to enroll. When the individual clicks on this link, a registration screen displays with your program's name at the top. Upon completion of the registration process, a welcome email is sent to the individual with instructions for accessing the course presentations. If you prefer, you can register your students/residents/staff by clicking on the link provided above and entering an enrollee's information. Repeat the process of opening the link and entering each enrollee. After enrollment is completed, each enrollee receives a welcome email and course access instructions. You may want to bookmark this link to prevent losing the information.
Presentation FormatThe RICU online courses are presented in English. Presentation materials appear onscreen and some include narration. All include access to slides in Adobe PDF Format. Interactive activities keep the learner engaged. The learner may leave and return to the program at any time, and begin again where they left off. The system tracks student progress through the chapters. The online program is after verification of program director and SCCM membership status and remains available until June 30 of each year, regardless of when you begin the program. The program must be viewed while connected to the Internet. This online program is best viewed using Internet Explorer, although it may also be viewed using other browsers which can view Adobe Flash files. However, problems with student score recording and tracking have been reported with non-Windows browsers. The program is not currently compatible with Apple Mobile OS [i.e., iPad, iPhone].) Once you have completed the registration process, the Program Director receives a link to distribution to his/her students.
