Administration

Maintaining balance between patient care and resource allocation is difficult and delicate. The patient’s perspective must be considered when making administrative decisions, yet we are increasingly required to maintain a business perspective in the management of our intensive care units (ICUs). Administrators face a significant challenge – keeping healthcare expenses down while providing optimal patient care.  Although this is part of healthcare administrators’ day-to-day operations, all healthcare professionals are responsible for knowing how a system works to allow for appropriate resource allocation and to provide the best cost-effective care.

These Web pages will offer guidelines for those individuals making administrative decisions about the management of an ICU. You will find a toolkit that explains the importance of an integrated team of dedicated experts directed by trained and present intensivist physicians and materials on the use of electronic record keeping to minimize errors.
